|Warrior: Okay, I got the winner of the 1on1 Weekend Cup here, »Яąẅ« NiCO. Hello!|
Warrior: First off, congratulations for the victory!
NiCO: Thanks, that was really a great cup!
Warrior: Nice to hear. Before we talk more about the cup, I think we should just talk a little bit about you.
Where are you from?
NiCO: I'm from France.
Warrior: How long have you been playing this game?
NiCO: I've been playing this game since 2005. I'm a oldschool player.
Warrior: Wow, that's really a long time, around 8 years. So I guess you were in a lot of clans in this time.
NiCO: Yeah indeed, I played in a lot of good teams such as [SA.fr] (Shark Attack), /P!raT\, `eGz (Eternity Gamerz), ĐnĐ (Do not Disturb), »Яąẅ« (Ruthless Annihilation Worldwide) and 'eS (Electronic Spankers). 'eS and »Яąẅ« were probably the best teams I've ever played with.
Warrior: Many top teams in that list, sadly only some of them still exist. But okay, let's talk about the cup. How does it feel, being the 1on1 champion?
NiCO: On one hand, I feel a bit relieved. There were a lot of good players such as Nico who were hard to play against. On the other hand I'm really happy because it was the first tournament with a cash prize that I've won.
Warrior: I understand that's nice - playing a fun game and winning cash at the same time. We'll get back to that later.
What were your expectations before the cup?
Did you expect to win? Or did you think there were any hard opponents who might beat you?
NiCO: At first I didn't expect to win at all. I saw that Serino signed up, who is truely a top 1on1 player. But then my luck showed up - he didn't show up for the cup. Immediately I was thinking about winning. And I was right. I didn't give up and I tried my best to win, even if it was a bit hard against Peter (Madara) and Nico.
Warrior: Yeah I watched and casted the matches, you fought very hard, there were quite some close matches there. But in the end you managed to win them all. What are your thoughts about the cup format and the map choosing process.
NiCO: I liked it. That was a good idea by the admins to do that kind of format. I hope there will be more cups with that format.
Warrior: I also hope their will be more cups soon. Did you also like that they split the cup over two days?
NiCO: I don't really know. Personnaly I don't mind if the cup is over several days or not.
Warrior: Do you think that having a cash prize is a good way to increase the activity in the community? Do you think more people are motivated to play, if there is money involved?
NiCO: Yes. In every game - if money is involved - every player will try their best to win it and ofcourse more people will be motivated to play, trying to take a shot at the prize. Especially when you don't need to pay anything to play, it's basically free money and you play a game that you like. Also money gives desire. :P
Warrior: So what are you most happy about, being the winner of the cup, as in defeating all the other players, or having the money?
NiCO: Being the winner of the cup. I can prooved that I'm a very good player and even if I don't play Half-Life 2: Deathmatch regularly anymore I can win big events like this. I also want the other players to be afraid of me.
Warrior: Haha! Do you think there is a brighter future for Half-Life 2: Deathmatch if we keep on getting prizees for cups and future leagues?
NiCO: Probably, I can't tell you right now if Half-Life 2: Deathmatch can be completely revived. There are less people than before, understandable with a game that is so old, and it's pretty hard to bring new players. :/
So I don't know yet, let's hope the best.
Warrior: Trure, do you have any suggestions to cup organizers that can make the next cups even better?
NiCO: Hmmm, get more players involved I guess. Everything else was all good to be honest.
Warrior: Are you looking forward to more cups in the future? And what sort of cups would you personally like to see?
NiCO: I wish there were more team based cups, 2on2 and 3on3 cups are rare. Would be great to see those getting organized.
Warrior: Alright! And at last... What do you think about the live-streaming? Is it something you want to see more of, in cups, leagues, matches etc?
NiCO: Sure, streams are great to show what kind of game it is. That's why we should make more and more streams to get more people interested in this game.
Warrior: Thanks for taking your time and answering all those questions. Hope to see you soon again and once again, congrats for the win!
NiCO: You're welcome! See you next time.
